Welcome to the latest Six-Figure Media Jobs newsletter!
…..and the dreaded doldrums of summer…
There are a LOT more jobs this week than there were last week, and that’s great to see, but the pickings are still pretty slim. I’ve collected more than 20 new jobs and freelance gigs all of which pay very well and are fully remote.
While we’re only at the very beginning of the summer doldrums, I constantly have to remind myself that this is “normal.” I’ve been at this freelancing thing for more than 10 years and can tell you, authoritatively, summer is always a bit slow. Yet, for some reason, I sort of freak out every summer when there’s that lull.
This is totally normal for this time of year, so I’m reminding you (and myself) not to fret. If things are slow, now is the time to clean up your portfolios, work on any long-term project planning, and start honing those pitches for the upcoming fall season, which will most certainly be busy again.
In case you missed it last week, Tim Herrera (the founder of a decent newsletter called Freelancing with Tim) put together a massive list of freelance pay rates recently and shared it on social media last week. It’s here if you’re interested (definitely bookmark it). It’s very helpful when trying to figure out what the going rates are for freelance work.
As a Note: I am going to be off next week (so there will be no newsletter), but I will be back the week of July 28th and back on my regular newsletter schedule.
A few highlights from this weeks’ remote jobs include:
An Freelance Senior Writer role that pays up $70 per hour and lasts through the end of the year.
A Personal Finance Writer role that pays up to $105,000 per year.
An Director of Content position that pays up to $205,000 per year.
A bunch of calls-for-pitches for high-profile lifestyle, culture, and business magazines that pay at least $1 per word, with editor email addresses included.
Another long list of REALLY BAD Dishonorable Mention jobs that you should definitely avoid.
A fun Passion Project job if you’re into 🔎🔪 drama.
If you’re new here, 👋 I’m Abigail Bassett 👋 a highly successful freelance journalist with top-tier bylines under my belt. I’ve written for many of the publications I include in this newsletter, including The Atlantic, Elle, National Geographic, Fortune, Fast Company, Forbes, Inc., TechCrunch, The Verge, CNN, and more. I have been a freelancer for more than ten years, and I KNOW the ins and outs of this business. If you’re looking for someone to guide you through these tough media times, I’m your gal. You can find out more about me and my work at abigailbassett.com.
If you’d like to give this newsletter a shot, for a limited time, I’m offering a 30-day trial when you sign up for the $5 monthly plan.
For less than the cost of a cup of coffee you can get access to these jobs (and previous weeks listings), editor emails (which I include every week), pitch guides, insights about what it’s really like to work for these companies (via the Editor’s Notes), and everyone’s favorite section: The Dishonorable Mentions. There, I detail the worst media jobs (and companies) that consistently underpay for the work they’re offering.
This newsletter stands out in a sea of others because you won’t see these jobs in any other newsletter out there. I curate them directly via a number of different sites and get many listings directly. If I do see something on the numerous jobs newsletters I subscribe to, I’ll mention it in the Editor’s Notes.
