This Week, a Real Journalist Got Caught Using AI…

Yep. It happened again. This time a NY Times freelancer (and this part just makes me so mad), got caught plagiarizing/using AI to write a book review, and got himself fired from the publication and landed him with a black mark for future writing jobs, for sure.

Apparently he neglected to put his own words together for a description of a book called Watching Over Her, and lifted directly from The Guardian’s own review of the book.

I know it goes without saying, but just don’t do any of this. Use AI for research (think of it like an intern) and a helpful assistant editor who can help you refine your thoughts–but don’t ever lift anything from any chatbot and throw it into your story like you wrote it. Or else, you’ll end up as a headline in the Guardian, and The New York Times.

This Week in Six-Figure Media (and Media Adjacent) Jobs

This week is a bit lighter on jobs–both full-time and contract/freelance–but that’s no surprise given that we had such a rip-roaring list of new jobs over the last month. On average, there were 30 newly listed jobs per week in March!

April seems to be off to a bit slower start, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t plenty of great options out there.

This week’s freelance work includes opportunities with

  • Microsoft

  • Mozilla and more

Full-time work includes options with

  • Bon Appetit & Epicurious

  • CNN

  • Spotify

  • Yahoo

  • Dropbox and more

All jobs pay at least $1 per word and up to a huge $367,000 per year. And yes thats a journalism-adjacent job.

There’s also a $300k Editor in Chief job on this week’s list that you won’t see everywhere else.
